Research priorities

Microbiome science is inherently cross-disciplinary as demonstrated by years of interdisciplinary research at VCU.

As a newly established center, the cMEDA brings together more than 100 VCU investigators from all of VCU's schools and colleges, with strong support from the School of Medicine, College of Engineering, School of Dentistry, College of Humanities and Sciences and the School of Nursing. We aim to create synergies among these researchers with established investigators in four key areas: reproductive, gastrointestinal, oropharyngeal and computational and statistical analysis. 

We believe that the cMEDA provides the infrastructure necessary to optimize microbiome-oriented research that treads on no other unit's intellectual space and presents the potential for significant advancement in the field.
